Deputy General Counsel
Philip Reich serves as the Executive Assistant to the Chancellor, Director of Special Programs, and Deputy General Counsel for The University of Alabama System. Philip began working in these capacities in August 2012 and assists the Chancellor with the various responsibilities of his office, oversees the implementation of special programs, and serves as Deputy General Counsel. Philip reports directly to the Chancellor and serves on the Chancellor’s Senior Staff. He also currently teaches a legal course in Honors College and serves on the President’s Cabinet.
Prior to coming to the System office in 2012, Philip served as the Presiding Circuit Judge of Lawrence County, Alabama, for 20 years. After his retirement in 2009, Philip began a mediation practice serving over 10 counties in the state of Alabama in domestic, civil and appellate mediation. By serving in these positions as well as others, he has a combined 38 years of experience in the field of law.
Philip is a graduate of The University of Alabama and received his J.D. in 1974 from The University of Alabama Law School.
